Recently, Uganda made significant changes to its environmental legislation by enacting the National Environment Act No. 5 of 2019, which includes a ban on all plastic carrier bags that are under 30 microns. Additionally, the country has introduced an extended producer responsibility initiative, aligning with the polluter pays principle.

As a response to these changes, the Front Aid Foundation launched a proactive campaign. The initiative aims to annually collect all plastic materials from the Kalule Buwambo area and surrounding areas, with the inaugural event launched on January 20th, 2023.
