urban farming

smart agriculture Program

With over two-thirds of Uganda’s population residing in rural areas, urban populations are also rapidly expanding. Kampala, the capital city, is home to more than 1.5 million people, and available land is becoming increasingly scarce.

To address the food needs of the growing urban population, many individuals have turned to urban farming. This innovative technique allows people to grow vegetables even in limited spaces, such as using plastic bottles and polyethylene bags.

Through initiatives like the one at FAF, communities are learning how to cultivate crops in unconventional containers, which has significantly improved food security within households.
